SRC’s dedication to environmental protection and preservation was recognized by the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) on Thursday, March 2 at the annual APEGS awards. These awards highlight professional excellence and the contributions of Saskatchewan engineers and geoscientists across the province.
This year, SRC’s Environmental Remediation team received an Environmental Excellence Award for their work on Project CLEANS. The Environmental Excellence Award recognizes the team’s exceptional remediation work at the former Gunnar Mine and Mill Site, which includes such achievements as stabilizing tailings to minimize radiation, reestablishing local vegetation growth and assisting in rehabilitating the ecosystem of the Athabasca Basin.
The Gunnar Remediation Project improves public safety and aims to provide significant long-lasting environmental and socio-economic benefits in the area. The remediation work also strives to ensures safe traditional land use by local communities.
