Did you know that SRC’s SLOWPOKE-2 nuclear research reactor has been operating for 35 years?
It’s true! Housed at SRC’s Environmental Analytical Laboratories, the reactor was commissioned in March of 1981 and saw its first commercial sample processed on March 25, 1981.
A lot has happened with the reactor over the past 35 years:
- Over 232,000 tests have been performed
- It has operated for over 19,000 hours
- But most impressively, it has been operating safely and without incident the entire time
