Today, the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) released its economic impact results for the 2016-17 fiscal year.
Last year, SRC provided a more than 18-times return for every dollar invested by the Government of Saskatchewan. That represents more than $404 million in direct benefits to the province’s economy. Additionally, SRC’s work created or maintained more than 1,500 jobs in Saskatchewan, valued at more than $109 million. Overall, SRC’s economic and job impacts total $513 million.
“For more than 70 years, SRC has helped Saskatchewan industry solve challenging problems through research and innovation,” Minister Responsible for SRC Jeremy Harrison said. “The work SRC does is recognized around the world as some of the most leading-edge that’s being done anywhere.”
Over the last 14 years, SRC has achieved more than $7.6 billion in combined economic and job impacts in Saskatchewan.
“As one of Canada’s leading and most valued research and technology organizations, we are proud of the substantial impacts we make on our economy, environment and communities,” SRC President and CEO Dr. Laurier Schramm said. “Our benchmarking shows that our economic impact achievement record is unparalleled in the world for research and technology organizations.”
In addition, SRC is committed to conducting business in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
Some highlights from SRC’s 2016-17 corporate social responsibility activities include:
- SRC employees volunteered 241 hours at food banks and other initiatives through SRC’s Employee Volunteer Program.
- More than $43 million was invested in projects designed to create positive environmental and/or social impacts.
- SRC participated in projects that reduced greenhouse gases (GHGs) more than 21 kilotonnes and saved an equivalent to more than 40 million kWh/year of energy.
